Is Tracks vs. Tires a Question of Speed vs. Stability?

Many heavy-duty shop owners are confused whether they should install tires or tracks on their machines. Of course, this depends a lot on the kind of work your heavy vehicle does most frequently. If your objective is to maintain a higher speed, then rubber tire machines have an advantage over a machine with Rubber Tracks. Most Rubber Tracks machinery can achieve the speed of a few miles per hour at its best. However, machines with rubber tires can zip along faster than most people can run.

When you are working at a site where you have to take multiple trips over long distances, a high-speed vehicle is critical for that job. In these situations, you will fare well if you use skid steers with wheels at landscape jobs and rubber-tired loaders in gravel pits.

On the other hand, construction machines with Rubber Tracks are intentionally designed to be slower. The reason behind it is that construction sites often don’t need vehicles with fast traveling speeds unless there’s a specialized need for it. If that need arises, professionals equip those vehicles with wheels. Moreover, the speed of a vehicle also affects its ability to maneuver more freely. Therefore, rubber-tired machines need room to turn about. However, Rubber Tracks machines have the ability to turn within their own radius. So, they can swing in a circle without having to move backward or forward if the driver brakes one Rubber Tracks and accelerates the other.

Tracked and wheeled machines differ with each other in terms of protection, traction, speed, and stability. Both of these units have their have benefits and can be useful according to any given application.
